STATEMENT FROM PENGLAIS COMMUNITY GARDEN
COVID UPDATE Sept 2020
During the Covid-19 pandemic we have been careful in restricting access to the site. We established a rota to ensure only one person on the site at a time, and biosecurity protocols to wash down watering cans, tools etc.
Our harvest might have been less productive than previous years but we’ve done alright!! And Aber has done alright too, with lots of initiatives and activities supporting and encouraging growers in recent months [e.g. www.aberfoodsurplus.co.uk, Penparcau Planting Project]
For many of us the garden has provided a great therapeutic outlet during testing times and continues to do so. This is one of the brilliant things about gardens and gardening.
We coordinate our activities through email and now have a few more people (socially distanced) on the site for the odd gardening session.
With 12 growing beds and some repairs and maintenance on the site to carry out we know there are things to do over autumn and winter and we would like to involve people interested in gardening and outdoor activity.
Given Coronavirus has not gone away we will make sure anything we can do in future is organised in a responsible, safe and useful manner.
We hope to provide details of what we are planning and how people might be involved in the next couple of weeks.
In the meantime, if you want to be on the mailing list or keep informed or even get involved with the garden either:

About Us
We are a community of growers located near Aberystwyth Arts Centre.
The Penglais Community Garden is a ‘community garden’, managed by local people for general enjoyment and use. It began as a student initiative, supported by Aberystwyth University.
Our objective is to create a space for people to grow, to learn about growing food, planting in a wildlife friendly manner, and to provide a quiet space for people visiting the university and Arts Centre to just sit and enjoy their lunch!
It is run as something for anyone with an interest in gardening and growing from the Aberystwyth area to get involved with. We produce a bumper harvest each year which is shared between the volunteers.
