Help us keep the Garden going for another year

Updated: Feb 19

Could you help Penglais Community Garden flourish for another year? Then please consider contributing to our 2024 crowdfunder, which is linked to an exciting new wildlife regeneration project in Aberystwyth.

Although in the past we have benefited from grants from Aberystwyth Town Council and the Welsh Government, as well as private donations, the Garden is run by volunteers, often paying for seeds and compost out of our own pockets.

Now we want to put it on a stronger footing. So this year we are running a crowdfunder to cover some basic costs - insurance, seeds and tools - and also to repair our shed, which is leaking. As well as this, we want to increase our rainwater harvesting.

We are asking anyone who values the Garden to give £5-50, depending on your means, and hope to raise £300 to keep us going for a year.

We are excited to be partnering with a new Aberystwyth enterprise called Treegeneration, run by Llanbadarn resident Rob Squires, who is pioneering a new way of linking local businesses with projects that benefit wildlife, like us.

This means that you can choose between making a straight donation, of which 100% will go to the Garden, or making what’s called a contribution, which means that the money still goes to us but you receive credits that you can spend with participating businesses. That means discounts off art prints, calendars, icecream, jewellery and even diving equipment.

Treegeneration is also supporting Ysgol Gymraeg’s project to green the school grounds, and the Wildlife Trust of South and West Wales, so we are in good company.

You can go ahead and contribute or donate here. Just enter the amount you want to pay, then go to your Cart and checkout. Because Treegeneration is a new service it is currently not charging, so 100% of your gift will go to us. Please choose GoCardless if you can, as that is cheaper, but note that it does not support all banks. Please note also that you will need to create an account with the site.)

Thank you, and please spread the word!
